Introduction

This documentation provides best practices for structuring Terraform configurations, code structure, environments setup, Git strategy, CI/CD, Terraform AWS Modules Blueprint, QA Terraform AWS Modules Process, Terraform AWS Stacks Blueprint, and Terragrunt AWS Deployer Blueprint.

What is Infrastructure as Code (IaC)?

Infrastructure as code (IaC) is the process of managing and provisioning computer data centers through machine-readable definition files, rather than physical hardware configuration or interactive configuration tools. The IT infrastructure managed by this process comprises both physical equipment such as bare-metal servers as well as virtual machines and associated configuration resources. The definitions may be in a version control system. It can use either scripts or declarative definitions, rather than manual processes, but the term is more often used to promote declarative approaches.

What is Terraform?

Terraform is an open-source infrastructure as code software tool created by HashiCorp. It allows users to define and provision data center infrastructure using a declarative configuration language. Terraform manages external resources such as public cloud infrastructure, private cloud infrastructure, network appliances, software as a service, and platform as a service with a code.

What is Terragrunt?

Terragrunt is a thin wrapper that provides extra tools for keeping your configurations DRY, working with multiple Terraform modules, and managing remote state.

Why Terraform and Terragrunt?

Terraform and Terragrunt are the most popular tools for Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to manage and provision data center infrastructure using a declarative configuration language. Terraform and Terragrunt manage external resources such as public cloud infrastructure, private cloud infrastructure, network appliances, software as a service, and platform as a service with a code.
